The academic union of universities (ASUU) have declared a one week warning strike from the 16th of November to 22nd 2016. This was made known in a bulletin released after their NEC meeting November 12th.

Some of the issues being protested by ASUU includes funding for revitalization of public universities based on federal government and ASUU memorandum of understanding of 2009, non-release of subvension of state universities by their visitors and registration of NUPEMCO.

Other lingering issues are payment of earned academic allowance (EAA) and shortfalls in salaries leading to payment of fractions of staff salaries. According to ASUU, the strike is total and comprehensive with no teaching, examination or any other routine activities of any kind.
