Arsenal are reportedly considering making a £40 million move for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial, should they miss out on Kylian Mbappe.
The Gunners remain in the hunt for the Monaco teenager, but a deal looks difficult with Real Madrid also believed to be in the running and it likely to take a world-record fee to land the striker.
However, the Daily Mail now claim that Arsenal could opt for Martial, if they do miss out on Mbappe.
Martial endured a difficult second season at Old Trafford last time out and managed just four Premier League goals for the Red Devils.
The Frenchman does not appear to have convinced Jose Mourinho he should be a regular and may find game time even more difficult next season, with United being linked with a host of attacking players this summer.
Ivan Perisic and Alvaro Morata are just two of the players rumoured to be heading to Old Trafford and should the club indeed strengthen, departures looks likely.
However, the report also claims that Wenger feels it may be hard to sign Martial due to his difficult relationship with Jose Mourinho.
In that case, Arsenal would reportedly ask for negotiations to take place at board level in the hope United would be unable to turn down a bid for a player who is struggling for game time.
