While everybody has their eyes on the top six and the moves they are bound to make over the next few weeks, West Ham has quietly gone about their business in a very effective way.

England goalkeeper Joe Hart has returned from his Italian sabbatical to man the sticks for the Hammers next season while Stokes, arguably, best player Marko Arnautiovic has also joined the club.

However, the acquisition of Javier Hernandez from Bayern Leverkusen could be the best deal of them all.

The former Manchester United man is a proven goalscorer throughout his career and was a firm favourite at Old Trafford during his five years at the club.

Now 29, boss Slaven Bilic is hoping that the Mexican can fill the goalscoring void that Andy Carroll is bound to vacate for various spells during throughout the season.

That starts with a return to Old Trafford for Hernandez on Sunday for West Ham’s opening game this season, but if he scores, it appears as if the striker is going to opt to go the classy route.

On his first game back in English football coming against Manchester United, Hernandez was clearly delighted.

“I don’t know how to describe it. I just can say that it’s luck,” the Mexican continues. “I’m very lucky to go back to my old club, my old home, my old house. To start my new chapter in this second part of my life in the Premier League is going to be something happy. I have very good memories from those four years in Manchester.”

So does Hernández feel any pressure being the main man at the London Stadium rather than just a super sub like the old days? Apparently not. “It’s the same,” he laughs. “I felt the same when I went to Manchester United, to Madrid, to Leverkusen and now at West Ham. The only pressure I have is my pressure, that’s it.”

Wherever you stand on players scoring against their old clubs and the way they celebrate, Hernandez has made his stance very clear.
