David de Gea 7 – Made a crucial save from Wayne Rooney early in the second half and later denied Sandro Ramirez with a superb save. Another faultless display from the Spaniard – his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Antonio Valencia 7 – Lashed home a simply sublime strike with just four minutes on the clock – the type of goal that only goes in once in a hundred attempts. Once again superbly solid on the right hand side.

Phil Jones 6 –
Another shaky display from the Englishman. Never looked comfortable positionally and put the home side in unnecessary amounts of danger.

Eric Bailly 6.5 – Matched Everton physically throughout and covered plenty of turf, but struggled to get tight to Rooney.

Ashley Young 6 – A difficult afternoon for the 32-year-old. Didn’t receive much help at all on Manchester United’s left hand side as Cuco Martina provided the hosts with plenty of problems.

Nemanja Matic 8 – A wonderfully commanding display from the Serbian, who served as a reliable, driving presence during what was, at times, a frenetic display from Man United.

Marouane Fellaini 7 – Couldn’t replicate the fluidity of Paul Pogba in the middle but, as usual, battled indefatigably in the middle and moved the ball intelligently.

Juan Mata 6 – Almost added a second with a free kick that struck the post but couldn’t impose himself on the right hand side.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 6 – Picked up good positions and displayed a desire to plug the gaps, but largely struggled to release players further forward. Netted a crucial first goal of the season with seven minutes left.

Marcus Rashford 6.5 – Ran hard from minute one and gave Michael Keane a series of problems but couldn’t offer the same precision in the final third seen over the last couple of weeks.
Romelu Lukaku 7 –  For some time, it looked as if going up his former club served as a curse for the Belgian. Fluffed a superb opportunity in the first chance but somewhat atoned for the blunder with a pin-point assist for Mkhitaryan, before eventually taking his chance to silence his former club in the 89th minute.

Substitutes
Jesse Lingard 7 – Came on and plugged the gap on United’s left hand side with his usual running power and, in turn, largely stopped Everton from giving the home side too many jitters late on. Made an important difference from the bench.

Anthony Martial 7 – The Frenchman was only given five minutes from the bench but that was more than enough. Won a penalty in injury time and buried with ease. Once again United’s silent killer late on.
