Teenager Who Allegedly Livestreamed Crash That Killed Sister Said She Did it To Raise Money For Funeral

A California teen who allegedly drove drunk and livestreamed a crash that killed her little sister last month said she did it to raise money for the 14-year-old’s funeral.

Obdulia Sanchez, who was charged with driving under the influence and gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the July 21 crash, described her reasoning for continuing to record after the death of her sister in a four-page letter to a reporter at KGPE-TV.

“I made that video because I knew I had more than 5,000 followers,” the 18-year-old Stockton resident wrote. “It was the only way my sister would get a decent burial. I would never expose my sister like that. I anticipated the public donating money because my family isn’t rich.”
Sanchez’s attoney said the family raised more than $12,000 for her sister Jacqueline’s funeral.
In the letter to the station, Sanchez added that she loved her sister and did not want her to die, and apologized for her actions.
“I look awful, but I accomplished my goal,” Sanchez wrote.
She also stated that she thinks she deserves to go home.
“I want to visit [Jacqueline’s] gravestone every day,” she continued in the letter.

The parents of the girls spoke out last month in the aftermath of their daughter’s death, saying that they lost two daughters that day.

“I think she doesn’t know what happened,” the father, Nicandro Sanchez, told KFSN-TV. “What I think is she knows she’s done something wrong… She feels bad for herself, but she killed her own sister.”

If convicted, Sanchez faces 13 years in prison.from inside edition
