Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson denied Lionel Messi from the spot as the World Cup debutants held a star-studded Argentina side to a 1-1 draw at the Otkrytiye Arena in the 2018 World Cup Group D opener on Saturday.

The first 45 minutes of Iceland at the World Cup was undoubtedly a success and it turned out they had a superb second-half as well with goalkeeper Halldorsson posting a man of the match performance.

Marcos Rojo had the ball at left-back, lashed in a shot along the deck, Aguero killed it brilliantly with one touch before wriggling away from a defender and then battering a left-footed shot right into the roof of the net.
Iceland who levelled very quickly against England in the Euros two years ago did it again following a poor defending/goalkeeping from Argentina. Willy Caballero failed to deal with Hordur Magnusson’s shot and it ended up at the feet of Alfred Finnbogason who swept home with glee.
